"Geraniums, Sunflowers, Pyrenees (near Toulouse)"

pastel 20" x 13" 2001

I was awestruck by the view at the beautiful home of my French cousins, Petit Georges and Chantal. He searched around France for some property to buy, and was pleased to find this acreage and old farmhouse on a hilltop near Toulouse. The view is nearly full circle, simply breathtaking, and encompasses five departements. Rolling hills and pastoral fields of sunflowers and crops, small towns with churches, and in the distance, the Pyrenees Mountains. These can only be glimpsed occasionally, after a rainstorm. Luckily, it poured while I was there, and afterwards I saw my fifteen-minute view of them. I put them in this image from memory. The omnipresent geraniums were planted by Chantal. I am looking forward to my return.
