"Sunflowers facing Church (Tournesols en face de l'Eglise)"

pastel 20" x 26" 2001

Here is the typical French country church, the center of the small town of one hundred residents. Its bells ring morning and evening, and you can hear the neighboring town's as well. The sunflowers are facing the church, away from the sun. Surprising, that! I had always thought they faced towards the sun. Wrong. It was fun and fast to draw the backs for a change. And the whole scene seems kind of devotional. I will check out the church on my next trip.
