"Following Brigitte"

pastel 20" x 13" 2001

Here is my lovely cousin Brigitte, in her typical high heels, leading me through the narrow streets of Cotignac, chasing the beautiful light. She was a young teen when I last visited France in 1971, and thought me "the emancipated American woman." Now she is thrilled that I am an artist, and brought me to all her favorite, picturesque spots in the area. I could not have had a nicer guide. What fun! This image was used on the cover of The East Bay Monthly and I told her she was famous in Berkeley. One of my favorites, this piece will always be evocative of my stay there and will draw me back to this corner of La Belle France.
