"Masse's pastries, Berkeley"

pastel 16" x 13" 2004

In the famous Gourmet Ghetto area of Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, I found pastries which are truly works of art. It seems a crime to eat them. Paul hails from Paris and brought his authentic French pastry making skills to an appreciative audience. Special occasions deserve a box tied with a bow from the friendly staff. And I love Marsha’s aesthetics, from the witty logo to the sophisticated, minimalist look of the shop. And I just had to draw those polka dots. Check out the hot pastrami at Saul’s Delicatessen next door.
