"Wilbur Brown PhD"

Wilbur Brown is my best friend. His mild manner, frail frame and tremor belie his strength of character and accomplishments. A brilliant physicist doing formative work in laser technology, he also designed and built a nine level home in L.A. Since retiring to his condo here in Kihei he is an inspiration to many younger than his seventy-seven years as he walks Keawakapu beach twice a day. He is my swim buddy, dinner companion, confidante and biggest fan. I took the portrait challenge and sat him down on his lanai at the Mana Kai Resort. Asking my muse, Vincent van Gogh to help me, I simply drew Wilbur in colored pencils, hoping to capture his determination and life force. What an intense two hours! I retired as a pastel artist when my husband died in 2006. This new technique was so much fun, I now plan to do more.
